Lab

The Telluride Medical Center (TMC) provides both in-house and reference laboratory services.  As a CMS certified Moderate Complexity lab we perform a range of in office quick tests including Strep, Influenza, Mono, Urine dips and pregnancy to name a few.  We also provide Cardiac enzyme testing, limited chemistry and Complete blood counts when indicated.  We use Laboratory Corporation of America (Lab Corp) as our reference lab.  Blood is couriered daily, Mon. – Fri., to Grand Junction and is then flown to Denver.  Many test results are received in 24-48 hours.  Lab Corp bills the patient or the patient’s insurance company directly for their services.

Pharmacy

The Telluride Medical Center maintains a small in-house pharmacy.  The pharmacy stocks a limited amount of medications for dispensing when the local pharmacy is not open. Patients should be aware that many insurance companies will not reimburse for oral medications dispensed from our pharmacy.  TMC also maintains a full stock of emergency medications to address the needs of our Emergency Department patients.

Prescription Refill Policy

TMC-Primary Care seeks to aid our patients with their prescription refill needs in a timely manner.  We strive to fill prescriptions on the day we receive the request.  However, it may take 24 hours to process your request.

If you have not been seen by your healthcare provider at the medical center in the past six months we may defer the refilling of your medication.  You will be asked to make an appointment with your provider before your prescription can be filled.

Please note that narcotic medication refills may require an appointment.  The emergency department will not refill prescriptions for narcotics.

Institute For Altitude Medicine

With offices at TMC and in Mountain Village, this is a joint venture with the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.  Peter Hackett, MD, Director, is one of the world’s foremost authorities on high-altitude medicine.
