PEP (Physical Education Program)

PEP is a 3-year federal grant, awarded to the Telluride Medical Center in 2010, for Telluride and Norwood School Districts, as a preventative health measure to promote healthy active lifestyles for kids. PEP is designed to initiate, expand, or enhance physical education and nutrition programs for kids K-12th grade in both communities.

What PEP does:

PEP’s primary purpose is to enrich physical education for kids.

PEP is working with the Telluride and Norwood Physical Education departments to develop content-enriched curricula, purchase cutting-edge PE equipment, and provide continued education training for faculty and staff.

Nutrition Education – PEP provides free nutrition education programs within the schools and within the Telluride and Norwood communities.

PEP also organizes quarterly Community Nutrition Nights and newsletters to educate kids and adults on healthy foods and how they contribute to overall health over a lifetime.

Free PEP Activities – PEP sponsors free after-school clubs and organized activities for kids K-12 during the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

PEP also sponsors select kids’ enrollment in summer programming.

Fall Session of FREE PEP Clubs will take place from Sept. 25th through Oct. 23rd. Registration form in English or Spanish.

Check out the full schedule for Fall PEP Clubs, Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 25 - October 23.

School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) – PEP initiatives are guided and informed by a council of dedicated parents, teachers, administrators, and community members who meet regularly to plan and implement positive changes in the Telluride and Norwood Schools.

If you are interested in joining our School Health Advisory Council, please contact Emo Overall at [email protected]

Data on Our Kids – PEP collects and analyzes health and nutrition data for the Telluride and Norwood School Districts.

Students are required to wear pedometers, log their steps, nutrition and physical activity information, during several data collection windows each year.

PEP will be offering comprehensive reports with kids’ regular report cards so parents can become more aware of and involved in their kids’ levels of physical fitness!
