Blood tests are diagnostic examinations that measure and analyze certain amounts of substances found in the blood, such as cells, enzymes, and chemicals.
Blood work is ordered by a physician and is usually included in routine annual exams. Blood tests are the most common type of lab work and can be used to:

Diagnose and monitor disease and illness
Determine if organs like the liver, thyroid, heart, and kidneys are functioning properly
Evaluate if a particular treatment is working well
Check for nutritional deficiencies
Detect early health conditions

What is EKG Testing?

Electrocardiograms (EKG or ECG) are a medical device that measures the electrical activity of your heart. Electrocardiogram testing is a painless and non-invasive method of monitoring heart health and identifying potential conditions. EKG testing is performed by placing electrodes on the chest and limbs. These electrodes are small adhesive patches with wires that connect to a monitor. EKG testing takes only a few minutes to complete and requires the patient to lie still, as movement can skew results.

Why Do I Need an EKG?

EKG testing can be used to detect irregular heart rhythms and coronary artery disease, or determine if a patient has previously suffered from a heart attack. Electrocardiograms are also used to monitor existing heart problems and evaluate if the current treatment effectively manages these conditions. A physician may determine that EKG testing is necessary if you have a family history of heart disease, have experienced heart problems in the past, or are exhibiting symptoms such as:

  • Chest pain
  • Heart palpitations
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lightheadedness
  • Weakness or fatigue
