Only the body fluids: blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid, rectal fluids, vaginal fluids, and breast milk of a person infected with HIV can transmit the virus. Most commonly, the virus is transferred during sexual behavior and needle/syringe use. There is no cure for HIV. With proper medication and a healthy lifestyle, it can be managed.

As health care providers of the public, we administer HIV testing in our clinic. The virus can be prevented. By properly educating individuals, by creating a judgement-free environment for people to comfortably have discussions in and by providing access to routine testing, we can begin to prevent HIV.

If you: are a man who has sex with another man, had sex with an HIV-positive individual, had more than one sex partner since being last tested, injected drugs or shared syringes, exchanged sex for drugs or money, have been diagnosed with an STD, have been diagnosed with hepatitis or tuberculosis, had sex with someone who could say yes to any of the previous statements, get tested. If you are an individual who is more at risk of contracting HIV, get tested annually, bi-annually, or every few months. With new sexual partners, practice safe sex (i.e condoms) and talk about sexual history openly.
