Your Doctor Will See You Now
Preventative health season aims to keep patients healthy with screenings, exams and identifying risk factors
March 30, 2017 (Telluride, CO) -- Dr. Sharon Grundy doesn’t just want to see her patients when they’re sick. She wants to see them when they’re healthy too.
Since 2001 Dr. Grundy, medical director of Primary Care at the Telluride Regional Medical Center, has helped shape the clinic as not just a resource for sick people, but rather a medical home for integrative and wellness services.
“Preventative care is the heart of our practice,” said Dr. Grundy, and as part of her efforts to offer more preventative care, the medical center announced this week a Preventative Health Season campaign dedicated to drive patients towards specific wellness services, many of which are discounted, April through June.
“The best way to provide truly preventative care is to see our patients, regularly, and to understand their risk factors, review their prevention efforts and set health goals for the year,” said Grundy.
And while patients can come to the medical center year-round to meet with their primary care provider, Dr. Grundy and her team of health care providers hope to attract more patients during the spring season with discounted services, screenings and exams, when patient volume is low and doctors can spend extra time fostering those relationships.
Discounted wellness services for uninsured and under-insured patients offered throughout the Preventative Health Season include physical exams; screenings for cholesterol, thyroid and blood count; vitamin D, diabetes, prostate and cervical cancer and STD testing.
Efforts to see women for a wellness check up are of particular importance to Dr. Grundy; she expects that the women’s health services offered at the clinic will be a central focus of the campaign, especially since they’re able to offer expanded and deep discounts on those services.
“So many of the health challenges women face can be avoided or mitigated by annual check-in with their doctor,” said Dr. Grundy. “During a regular physical exam we can help determine if a patient requires a pap smear, mammogram, cervical exam or colorectal referral based on their age, risk factors and family history.”
Thanks to funding provided by the annual Play for P.I.N.K. golf tournament and fundraiser, the Telluride Regional Medical Center can offer free and discounted women’s health services throughout the Preventative Health Season campaign.
This dedication to preventative care is not new for this medical center. As a recognized Level III Patient Centered Medical Home—the highest recognition offered by The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)—the Telluride Regional Medical Center uses evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long-term, participative relationships.
Additional to the free and discounted services, the medical center offers payment plans and a sliding scale for services throughout the year. “We provide healthcare to everyone in the community, regardless of whether or not they’re insured,” said Dr. Grundy.
“Everyone deserves exceptional health care and this spring is a particularly good time to come check in with us,” she said.
