Literacy, a prescription from the doctor
At the Telluride Regional Medical Center, young patients are treated to books after each visit, thanks to two collaborations with local, state and national organizations.Children’s books are donated to the primary care department by both Reach Out and Read Colorado and the Telluride Rotary Club, who partner with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program.
Dr. Kent Gaylord and other practitioners share the books with children and speak to them and their parents about the importance of reading. Dr. Kent Gaylord was recently recognized for his work in helping foster literacy in the community. You can read more about that here.
